WALKING FOR HEALTH AND FITNESS RECOVERY SERIES
LESSON 1 OF 3
The 10-Minute Recovery Walk
How to Start Without Overdoing It
You do not need to prove how much you can do.
In this lesson, you’ll learn how to choose a manageable walking starting point—one you can control, recover from, and repeat.
Start where you are. Build from there.
What You’ll Learn in Lesson 1
Recovery does not begin by pushing harder. It begins by paying attention to what your body can reasonably handle today.
In this lesson, Frank will show you how to:
Check your energy, body, and breathing before you walk
Adjust your walk to match the kind of day you are having
Use the 10-Minute Recovery Walk as a manageable starting point
Finish your walk with some energy left
Measure progress by how well you recover—not only by time, distance, or speed
Your Next Step
Before continuing to Lesson 2, open your Walking for Health and Fitness Recovery Guide and complete the Lesson 1 “Your Next Step” section.
Use the Guide to:
Record how you feel before your walk
Complete the walking step that fits your ability today
Record how you feel afterward
Note one positive sign from the experience
Schedule your next walk
The goal is not to finish exhausted.
The goal is to complete a walk you can recover from—and feel capable of repeating.

Lesson 2: Why Motivation Is Not Enough
Starting is important. But motivation alone is not dependable enough to carry you through difficult days, changing schedules, or temporary setbacks.
In Lesson 2, you’ll learn how to build a repeatable walking habit that can survive real life.
